Congratulations you are engaged.

When planning a wedding it is important to be organised.
Make a list of what you need to do, and your budget.  Please be aware that no matter how organised you are, things may change along the way.
This is a starting point;
1.  Decide what type of Ceremony you want - Church or Civil (if civil are you having a hse registrar marry you or another type of ceremony - ie humanist etc)
2.  Book your ceremony with priest or venue and book registrar or celebrant.
3.  Decide on rough size for your wedding (number of guests)
3.  Choose a venue for your reception.
4.  Book your reception venue.
Once these important things are booked you need to decide your priorities and budget for your other wedding suppliers;
1. Wedding Planner
2. Band/DJ
3. Photographer
4. Dresses - Bride and Bridesmaids
5.  Flowers/Ceremony Decor
6.  Venue Flowers/Decor
7.  Hair
8. Make-Up
9. Rings
10. Mens Suits
11. Cake
12. Cars
13. Videographer
14. Honeymoon
15. Other entertainment and extras
16.  Other items - all couples are different and will have different priorities.

Please don't forget the legalities.  You must register your intent to marry at least 3 months before your wedding date.
Most priests will also require that you attend a pre-marriage course.

If you would like a wedding planner to help to organise your day this can take a lot of the stress out of planning for you.  This can be a great idea if you are planning a wedding from abroad.  There are lots of fabulous wedding planners out there and we at Cork Weddings and Events are always happy to discuss this with you.

In my view the absolutely most important supplier on the day is your photographer. They will capture the magic of your day and make sure that your memories are captured forever.  Take advice from friends who were married over the last couple of years and don't regret your decisions on this.  Budget is obviously very important to most couples but try not to cut back too much in the important areas.

Your budget is the most important thing.  Try to be realistic on wedding costs.  There is nothing wrong with shopping around for all of your wedding suppliers. Take advice from friends and family who have got married recently.  If you need to borrow to have your perfect big day, be sure not to over extend yourself.  Take out Wedding Insurance to cover any mishaps along the way.

This will be the most special day of your life.  You are marrying your soul mate and the love of your life.  Try not to get too stressed and enjoy the run up to your wedding.  Be organised and once you know which suppliers you would like to be part of your big day, book them and secure with a deposit.  The best suppliers always book out quickly.
